Olympics/China Boycott: Day 7 ( or, most morning news shows suck)

To boycott Olympic sponsor GE/NBC, I switched to another local morning news show. I had to do without the crazy local girl who raps the traffic report as well as charming Matt Lauer. So I switched to the Fox affiliate and then over to CBS--[zzzzzzzzzzz]--it was like watching paint dry. Tomorrow I'll try plain ol' CNN, or maybe I'll just leave earlier for work.

On a positive note, protests along the Olympic torch route are gaining attention. There was a scuffle over the flame in Paris, and a few adventurous souls scaled San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge in support of Tibet.

Hillary Clinton also got some press by calling for President Bush to boycott the opening ceremonies of the Games, something a handful of other world leaders have agreed to do. Of course, Bush doesn't have the balls to do it, especially since Hillary is asking. That would make him look like the poster boy for pussywhippin'. But kudos to Hillary for stepping out there. Hello, Barack, where are you?

I was quite happy, actually moved to tears today when I heard that the flmae had to be extinguished FIVE times in france today. BRILLIANT !!!!!

I honestly am having a hard time understanding how anyone could condone the state of Tibet!

Peace and Blessings

I'm happy Hillary made those comments too and disappointed that Obama has not as of yet. That being said, I'm still behind Barack. I can't imagine that he'd be anti-Tibet.

Give up the morning TV shows--seriously, try National Public Radio's Morning Edition instead. Much better coverage, and you can stream it online if you don't have a local station to play it. Leaves you free to fix breakfast, iron a shirt, and move around the house while you listen... not to mention having way more intelligent coverage of news than the big corporate t.v. programs.

Sparrow: Thanks for visiting! Very encouraged by all the protests going on. I hope the coverage gets more people thinking. As I mentioned, some of my friends just look at me with a blank stare when this comes up.

James: I agree about Obama, and it's kind of a damned-if-you-do and damned-if-don't kind of issue. One of those things you can't plan for and then it comes along, like a hot potato, and lands in your lap.

Cat: We do have an NPR station, so thanks for the reminder! I'm so used to listening to it in the truck, but for some reason forget to tune in while inside the house.

Did you see that UK PM Gordon Brown won't attend the opening ceremony?

Great news.

yep, of course, it now seems as if Sarkozy is waffling! I expected more from the devil-may-care French.
